Lois Bosatta joins modern slavery charity from the Rights Lab, University of Nottingham.
The trustees of The Clewer Initiative are delighted to announce the appointment of Lois Bosatta to the position of Director.
Lois comes to The Clewer Initiative from the University of Nottingham’s Rights Lab where she has been the Head of Business Development and Partnerships for the last four years. In this role, she focused on research delivery, partnership development, fundraising and impact. Prior to that, Lois completed the University of Nottingham’s Masters in Slavery and Liberation.
Lois’ passion for fighting modern slavery and human trafficking began in 2012 when she became aware of the work of various anti-trafficking organisations and activists through a documentary shown at her student church. Since then, she has pursued knowledge, experience and commitment to this cause, motivated by her personal faith. This has included active leadership in missional community projects, street outreach and family support with survivors of slavery. More recently, she has supported the work of Adavu, a post-NRM survivor support charity founded by the Methodist church, becoming a trustee in 2023.

Bishop Alastair Redfern, chair of trustees for The Clewer Initiative, explains: “Lois joins The Clewer Initiative at a critical stage in our evolution. She brings to the role significant expertise and strong relationships with many key stakeholders spanning the UK and international anti-slavery sector as well as multiple church denominations. We were extremely impressed with Lois when we met her and believe that The Clewer Initiative will benefit enormously from her passion, energy and experience of pioneering anti-slavery action, both in her professional and voluntary work.”
Lois adds: “I have followed the work of The Clewer Initiative for several years, and have always been inspired by its commitment, insight and vision. I am excited about leading The Clewer Initiative into its next chapter and look forward to working alongside Bishop Alastair Redfern, the trustees, patrons, staff team and Clewer’s network of advisors and community champions.
“Ten years on from the Modern Slavery Act in the UK and we have seen significant progress in victim identification and support, public awareness and corporate action. However, there is still a long way to go until everyone is living safe, healthy, happy lives in decent, meaningful work and sustained freedom.
“The Church has an incredible set of resources in terms of networks, people, vision, prayer and practical support. We must continue to mobilise these assets in local communities and nationally so that together we can develop strategies that detect modern slavery, empower survivors, and play our small part in significant systemic change in the UK and globally. We look forward to the next chapter as an independent organisation, growing partnerships and forging a way ahead together.”
Lois’ first day at The Clewer Initiative is Monday 16th June. If you would like to get in touch with her, please email info@clewer.org.uk and she will respond after 16th June!
"Lois’ extensive background in fighting and advocating for victims and survivors makes her a perfect fit for the role. Slavery has no place in our society, and it is incumbent on us as Christians to raise awareness and engage our communities to protect those most at risk. I pray for Lois’ every success in progressing the vital work of The Clewer Initiative."
