Using poetry to bring victim stories to life
The Clewer Initiative
Earlier this year, we created six animated poems that share six different perspectives on modern slavery.
We asked artist Bill Crooks to produce a range of striking illustrations to accompany the six victim and bystander poems and Jackie Mouradian found actors and music to bring the words to life. The poems are part of the Waiting in the Wilderness new resource and we pray they will prompt much discussion.
The poems are:
- Does God hear anymore? What is it like to be a victim of domestic servitude?
- Too good to be true - Do the products we buy have another story?
- Being washed away - What goes on behind the scenes at some hand car washes?
- Finding my way - How does it feel to be trapped in a county lines gang?
- A cog in the wheel - How do victims get drawn into sexual exploitation?
- Uncaring caring - How is modern slavery growing in the UK care sector?
