Lent
Each year, The Clewer Initiative creates an awareness-raising Lent course for use in churches and communities over this special period.
Our Lent courses have all had a slightly different focus and scope:
- Lent 2021 - Women in the Shadows
- Lent 2022 - Children in the Shadows
- Lent 2023 - Journeys
- Lent 2024 - True Freedom, created in partnership with the World Council of Churches (WCC)
- Lent 2025 - Waiting in the Wilderness
For Women in the Shadows and Journeys, we commissioned the creation of six films to accompany the devotional resource. These included interviews with frontline experts and dramatised victims stories.

True Freedom and Waiting in the Wilderness have their own bespoke microsites. True Freedom was translated into French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Korean.
We are particularly proud of these five different resources. Not only are they an excellent way for church groups to learn more about modern slavery and reflect on their own response during Lent, they can also be adapted for use by secular groups or at other times of the year.
