Our Anti-Slavery Day campaign for October 2026

Every year, we encourage individuals and churches to make the most of Anti-Slavery Day.
Anti-Slavery Day falls on Sunday 18th October 2026, providing a wonderful opportunity to mark the day in your church.
Over the last six years, churches, cathedrals, dioceses and community groups have organised ‘pop-up’ art exhibitions, county lines events, schools' days and special Anti-Slavery Day services; painted murals; made promises to DO ONE THING; illuminated buildings red and displayed crochet chains.
This year, we want to encourage you to do something a bit different! For Anti-Slavery Day, we want to invite you to WALK – SEE – PRAY.
To WALK around your community; SEE what is before you and PRAY for the Lord to be at work in that place.
It really is that simple! Just #WalkSeePray
If modern slavery is to be eradicated, our communities must be strong. They must be full of people who care about their neighbours, notice when things aren’t right and take action to protect vulnerable people.
And a brilliant starting point is always PRAYER!
When we pray, we recognise our own inability to change things, and our need of God. But amazingly, when we pray, we are often guided to see how we can be the answer to our prayers. Prayer often leads to action!
As we walk, we can pray for blessing, safety, partnership and peace in our neighbourhoods, asking the Lord to make them more resilient against injustice and exploitation. And we can ask the Lord to help us see people in a fresh way or perhaps notice things we have been too busy to observe before. Through this discipline of prayer, it may be that the Lord sparks an idea or gives us courage to take action in a way we might not have considered before.
You don't have to WALK-SEE-PRAY for long - it can be as much or as little as you can manage! You could plan to walk 23,411 steps - the number of victims reported last year - or for the less mobile, walk to the end of the road or even trace a path on a map with your finger!
Of course, if during our walks, we see anything that causes concern, please call local police on 101, the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Therefore, with three months to go until Anti-Slavery Day, we invite you to:
- Talk to your friends and church about WALK-SEE-PRAY
- Pledge to walk throughout the month of October and then send us an email at info@clewer.org.uk to let us know!
- Plan – will you walk around the same streets every day or go in different directions each time building up a fuller picture of your neighbourhood? Will you walk with a prayer partner or on your own? Will you pray out loud or in your heart?
- Host – could you organise a prayer meeting on Sunday 18th October (or another day in October), bringing together everyone who has walked throughout the month to pray together for the community, victims of modern slavery and your shared response? This could act as a finale or celebration of all the individual prayer walks.
